Perth Day 4: Penguin Island, Fremantle City, Cottesloe Beach and Mill Point

13th November 2015

I left hostel at 0745 for Rockingham to visit Penguin Island. I took south bound train to Rockingham and then catched bus 551 to Penguin Island. Penguin Island is located 45 minutes south of Perth and a 5 minutes ferry ride across the beautiful Shoalwater Bay.

I arrived just in time to catch the 0900 ferry. I paid $23 for ferry and penguin feeding. I explored the nature trails and boardwalks which offer a spectacular view of the marine park.
I saw pelicans and other sea birds up close while exploring the island. The penguins can be difficult to spot in the wild as most of the year, they spent their time at sea chasing fish. They do return to the island one hour after sunset to rest and socialise but will then leave again before sunrise.
I got the opportunity to see the penguins during the feeding time. The penguins here are the smallest of the penguin species. They are called Little Penguins.
I was back in Perth around 1300. I then decided to explore Fremantle city. So, I changed to Fremantle line train and hopped on free CAT bus. My first stop was at Kaili's. Then I went to Fremantle Market and E-shed Market. Souvenirs are much cheaper at E-shed Market compared to Fremantle Market and Perth.

While I was strolling in Fremantle city freely, I received a text from Alif, Singaporean backpacker which I met during the Pinnacles tour. After several replies, we decided to meet at Cottesloe Station around 1700 for sunset. The sunset was absolutely stunning.

We headed back to Perth and met Alif's friend, Nasrul at foodcourt Carillon City Mall for dinner. I accompanied them for dinner since my friend, Zahira delayed our dinner a bit late. From the Carillon City Mall, I walked to Malaysia Hall to meet her. Zahira took me to Makan Makan Cafe in Victoria Park. We had a wonderful dinner accompanied by live acoustic performance. It was a great night to spend with fellow Malaysians in Perth.

On our way back to the hostel, she brought me to Mill Point for incredible night view. I could see Perth in other point of view. We spent about half an hour here taking photos.

By the time I got back to hostel, it was already past midnight and I was ready to collapse. What a great couple of days so far.
